Sri Lanka beat Bangladesh

Dhaka, Feb. 22: Superb batting by Naveed Nawaz and tight bowling by Dulip Liyanage gave visitors Sri Lanka a five wicket win over hosts Bangladesh in the South Asian Association for Regional Co- operation (SAARC) Cricket Tournament in Dhaka on Saturday.

Bangladesh scored 220 for nine in the stipulated 50 overs. Sri Lanka A, i n reply, piled up 222 for five in 43.2 overs. One-down Naveed Nawaz hammere d a superb 88 before being caught by Enamul Huq Moni off Saiful Islam on 196 in the 41st over.

Man of the match Nawaz hit nine fours and a towering six off 106 balls. H e was supported by skipper Ruwan Kalpage with an unbeat- en 31.

Earlier Dulip Liyanage dismissed four noted batsmen conceding 42 runs off 10 overs. Ruwan Kalpage took two for 35. Bangladesh's Sanwar Hossain hit a brilliant 76 that included seven fours in his debut in first class cricke t. Captain Akram Khan scored a fine 54 with four fours and two sixes.

India A are to face Pakistan A on Sunday.

Bangladesh, who lost to Pakistan in the opening match Wednesday, will tak e on India on Feb. 26 in the last encounter.

Sri Lanka earned three points from two outings and will face Pakistan on Feb. 25. So far Pakistan have two points, India one and Bangladesh none.

The top two of the league will play in the final on Feb. 28.
