Ball-by-Ball Commentary

Match State: Match start at 04:00 GMT (10:00 local time)

       Good Morning everybody
Welcome to the LIVE ball-by-ball Text Commentary from CricInfo.com
This is the final league match in the Coca Cola Cup happening in
        Sri Lanka
This match has virtually become a Semi-Final match
Whoever wins this match will meet Sri Lanka in the Final on Sunday
We have had 8 matches so far in this competition
SriLanka won four out of 6, NZ and Ind have won 2 each out of the 5
        matches they have played
Srilanka won all their 3 league matches against NZ and won only one
        against India
New Zealand have won both their matches against India to get their
        4 points
India have really done well against the hosts in all their three
        matches
They have won two and lost one by a paltry 6 runs
Sri Lankans might just be hoping to play New Zealand in the Final
India is not in command at this stage of the tourney as they have
lost both their matches to New Zealand
They should be looking to turn the tables here today and secure a
        place in the Sunday Final
India lost their first 3 matches and have won the last two
India won against Sri Lanka last saturday after Ganguly was
        suspended for that match
Dravid took over the mantle of captaincy and did very well and put
        back India in winning ways
Thanks to a gallant knock by the Very Very Special man!
Then Ganguly was back again yesterday and India got their second
win to make today's clash a do-or-die one for both the teams
Yesterday Yuvraj Singh was India's hero
Yuvraj was really having a bad time after the ICCKO in Kenya last
year when he made a dream entry to International Cricket
He place in the side was not assured. He was under tremendous
pressure to perform, but was consistently failing
This series he was certainly not a liability to the side as he was
bowling well and was making 20s with the bat
But Yesterday was his day..India were looking at another defeat at
38/4 and would have lost the chance to make it to the Final
Came in the youngster with a brave heart and batted all through and
        remained 98 not out
The bowlers then did a good job and defended the 227 which was
achieved mainly because of Yuvraj Singh
For the record, Yuvraj has the highest batting average in this
        series so far - 48.00
Indians have done quite well when they had their backs against the
        wall in an ODI Series
The first one that comes to mind even before thinking is Sharjah
        1998
The man who did it then for India is not playing in this series due
        to injury
Yes! you are right! Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar did it for India
against the mighty Aussies with back to back tons
       Coming back to this series...
Indian Skipper Ganguly bowled extremely well yesterday though he
got a duck with the bat
The bad news is "Ganguly faces disciplinary action after verbal
        outburst"
This is after the verbal outburst he had after dismissing Russel
        Arnold
Match Referee Cammie Smith spoke to Ganguly, both umpires, Russel
Arnold and Mahela Jayawardene, the non-striker, immediately after
        the match
But hasn't confirmed anything so far
Ganguly could face another one-match suspension, possibly worse, if
his poor disciplinary record is taken into account
He has been suspended on three occasions so far in his career
On the lighter side, India might be rewarded by a suspension as
India have won both the matches before when he was suspended and
        Dravid took over captaincy
       Statistics now.......
Sanath Teran Jayasuriya is the highest rungetter in this series
with 206 runs from 6 matches
Nathan John Astle comes next with 182 runs from 5 matches - Can he
overtake the Sri Lankan skipper today?
Astle also has the only century in this series - He got 117 against
India in the second match of the series
As a fielder Harris has the most catches so far - six in five
        matches
Gunawardene and Jayasuriya have 4 eash from 6 matches
In the wicket-keepers, Dighe tops the list with 9 dismissals (6
        catches, 3 stumpings)
Kaluwitharana is next ahead of Parore with 6 dismissals (5 ct, 1
        st)
Coming to the bowling department, Fernando and Vaas have 9 wickets
        each from 6 matches
Turbanator also has 9 wickets from 5 matches - could well end up at
        the top today!
Next comes Harris and Zaheer Khan with 8 wickets each
       Coming to today's match
New Zealand win the toss and decide to bat first
No changes in the Indian team
Just the one change in the NZ team
L Vincent coming in and JDP Oram goes out
