Ladies and gentlemen, this is a big day in the tournament; Sri
Lanka is taking on India in the day/night encounter.
Sri Lanka and India have played one match each in the tournament so
far; having played against New Zealand.
Sri Lanka beat the Kiwis by 16 runs in the first match. India was
given a thrashing by the Kiwis in the second match, India losing
by 84 runs.
R Premadasa Stadium is the venue for the third match too. Believe
it or not, it is going to be the same pitch too. Hopefully it has
been watered and the curator has done some work on it.
Would the pitch hold good through the evening is going to be
anybody's guess. Ganguly would want to bat first, if he were to
win the toss.

Indians would not have fond memories of their last match against
Sri Lanka.
It was in the final of the Coca-Cola Cup, played in Sharjah on the
29th October 2000.
Sri Lanka batting first made a mammoth 299 in 50 overs, Sanath
Jayasuriya made 189 runs in 161 balls.
India would rather forget about their run chase, which was one of
the worst batting performance ever. All out for 54 in 26.3 overs!
Only Robin Singh (11) got into double figures.
Chaminda Vaas (5/14) and Muthiah Muralitharan (3/6) gave Sri Lanka
something to cherish, long after their 1996 World Cup success.
Well, Indians were battered then and were given a few lessons by
the Kiwis on Friday. Ganguly and his men would know that they have
to raise their game manifold to stay in this tournament.

order fell apart like a house of cards.
Amay Khurasiya making a comeback failed miserably. He doesn't
really seem to be anywhere near international standar, walking all
over the crease, a sitting duck for lbw and Perera was the lucky
man to get him.
Yuvraj is completely lost as an opener. Laxman is not the man who
played against Australia, his foot work is not worth a mention.
The wisdom ofsending in Harbhajan Singh as a pinch hitter defies
all logic. He didn't know what to do in the middle, to block or to
hit and scooped a tame catch.
Ganguly dropped himself down the order to save himself from the new
ball and the faster bowlers. Make no mistake, this man Fernando is
quick, the speed gun had him clockin in the 90's.
Ganguly stuck around to make a half century, but then he too wa a
disillusioned man. 69 off 105 balls wasn't going to be big enough
Dravid remained unbeaten on 49 from 81 balls. Not being able to
force the pace, not even a single boundary in his innings. This is

Sodhi was brimming with bravado but was undone by the magician, a
