All 17 Indian squad members fielded during a Sabina Park Test?
(3 May 2002)

India's famous victory at Port of Spain, successfully chasing down 403 in the fourth innings, sparked off wild celebrations back home. The fallout of that win, however, was much less pleasant. Clive Lloyd, under pressure from his board, the public and the media, completely abandoned any attempt at including spin and went in for the next Test at Sabina Park with an attack brimming over with pace.

Sunil Gavaskar, Anshuman Gaekwad and Mohinder Amarnath saw India past the 200-run mark for the loss of one wicket, but some short- pitched intimidatory bowling then came into play. Gavaskar, Gundappa Viswanath and Brijesh Patel suffered injuries and had to be taken to hospital.

Bishan Singh Bedi declared at 306 for six, fearful of injury to his bowlers as well. The injury list grew during India's stint in the field, with Bedi and Bhagwat Chandrasekhar sustaining hand injuries while fielding. The hosts took an 85-run first-innings lead, and then India started their second innings.

With Gavaskar, Viswanath and Patel missing, India were reduced to six batsmen, and the innings was terminated at 97. The West Indies, thus, won the match by 10 wickets and with two days to spare. It was during this Test that all 17 members of the touring squad fielded at one point or another, a direct result of the numerous injuries inflicted on the Indians.
