DID U KNOW...

The longest standing partnership record in ODI's is held by India (22 June 2001)

With the proliferation of one day internationals, limited overs cricket records do not stand much of a chance of standing for very long. Astonishingly though, there is one record that has stood since 1983. So far 1726 ODIs have been played and this record was established in ODI No 216. Which means 1510 such games have been played and yet the ninth wicket mark of 126 runs between Kapil Dev and Syed Kirmani for India against Zimbabwe at Tunbridge Wells in the Prudential World Cup Group B match on June 18, 1983 remains unsurpassed.

This is of course the match well known for Kapil Dev's great innings of 175 not out which rescued India from the mire of 17 for five and help them post a challenging total of 266 for eight in 60 overs. But when Kirmani joined Kapil, the score was still a highly inadequate 140 for eight. The captain and the wicket keeper then got entrenched in a ninth wicket stand that lasted only 16 overs. But with Kapil at his buccaneering best and Kirmani providing him sensible support in scoring 24 not out, the two came through unbeaten at the end of the innings, having broken Zimbabwe's spirits. After being close to elimination at the preliminary stage of the competition, India won the game by 31 runs on their way to the ultimate triumph at Lord's a week later.
