  • It was the 1548th ODI in cricket history.
  • Australia's total (329-5) was the highest on Australian soil. This obliterated the 323 for 2 made by Australia against SriLanka also at Adelaide on 28-01-1985.
  • It was also the second highest for Australia in all matches. The highest, however,still remains 332 for 3 against SriLanka at Sharjah on 02-05-1990.Australia's previous highest against India was 320 for 9 at Nottingham on 13-06-1983 in 60 overs. Australia's previous highest against India in a 50 over match was 292 for 6 at Sydney on 21-01- 1986.
  • It was also the second highest total in a day-night match. The best still remains SriLanka's 339 for 4 against Pakistan at Mohali on 24-05-1997.
  • It was 13th time that Australia was posting a total of 300 or more. Only Pakistan (16) has made more scores in excess of 300. Overall it was the 89th such instance and 12th against India.
  • Mark Waugh made his 14th ODI hundred in his 205th match. He had the scores of 1,7,3,12,43 and 20 in the series before this.
  • Adam Gilchrist became first Australian 'keeper to become a victim of nervous ninety. Overall it was the fifth instance of a 'keeper becoming a victim of nervous ninety. The details:

  • The 163 run partnership between Gilchrist and Mark Waugh was the second best for opening wicket for Australia against India after the all time record partnership of 212 between Geoff Marsh and David Boon at Jaipur on 07-09-1986.
  • The wicket of Ponting was 253rd for Anil Kumble in his 190th match. With this he equalled Kapil Dev's Indian record of most wickets in a career. Kapil had taken his 253 wickets from 225 appearances.
  • Sameer Dighe became fifth Indian 'keeper not to concede a bye despite opponents'total of 300 plus. Farokh Engineer, Syed Kirmani, Nayan Mongia and MSK Prasad are the others. Mongia, infact, had done so on three separate occasions.
  • Brett Lee (5-27) became 21st Australian to capture 5 wickets in a match. Lee provided the 26th such occasion for Australia. A five wicket haul has now been taken on 27 occasions against India -most against any side.
  • Both Lee brothers (Shane and Brett) have now taken a five wicket haul each. Shane Lee had returned the figures of 5 for 33 against SriLanka at Melbourne on 07-02-1999.They became second pair of brothers to record a five wicket haul after Zimbabwean Strang brothers (Paul and Bryan)
  • The defeat margin of 152 runs was the third largest for India in ODIs after England's 202-run win at Lord's on 07-06-1975 and Australia's 162-run win at Nottingham on 13-06-1983.However both were 60-over matches.India's previous worst defeat in a 50-over match was by 143 runs against Pakistan at Jaipur on 24-03-1999.
  • The defeat was also the joint fourth worst for a side in a daynight match. India had earlier lost to Pakistan by 123 runs at Bangalore on 04-04-1999.
  • Mark Waugh won his 19th MoM award.
