At Gymkhana, Nairobi, September 4
15-Apr-2003
At Gymkhana, Nairobi, September 4. Australia won by nine wickets. Australia 5 pts. Toss: Pakistan.
The places in the final were already settled, but Australia showed no sign of backing off, crushing
Pakistan by nine wickets. Waqar Younis opted to set a target after winning the toss, but the early-morning
conditions were tough and Waqar's batsmen failed him, gathering only 117 in 32.3 overs,
against the sustained accuracy and pace of Australia's seamers. At one point, Pakistan were 68 for
eight, and they needed some clean hitting from the captain to pass 100. Lee's rapid out-swingers
brought him four for 32 in eight overs. The Australians rattled along at a run a ball when they
replied, with the unstoppable Hayden flaying an unbeaten 59 from only 48 balls.
Man of the Match: B. Lee.
