At Kuala Lumpur, September 22, 2006 (day/night). Australia won by 18 runs. Australia 4 pts.
Toss: Australia.
An exciting contest was decided by Lee's bowling, and Australia elbowed their way into the
final. India's quest for 214 began remarkably, as the ball bounced routinely off Tendulkar's shoulder
into the keeper's gloves. McGrath barely appealed, but Mark Benson's finger shot up, to the visible
disbelief of Tendulkar and the largely Indian crowd. But before Tendulkar reached the boundary
the groans were replaced by cheers as Benson changed his mind, which riled Ponting - but it
mattered little: next over Tendulkar drove Lee airily to point and walked off for good. Mongia
resisted stoutly in his first international for 17 months, but Clark nabbed Kaif and Dravid in the
same over, then Hogg's classic wrong'un to Raina broke the first of two threatening partnerships.
The second ended when Lee unsettled Dhoni, and he followed up with two more wickets. For
Australia, Hayden had shown admirable precision on a tricky track, but the others did less well,
especially against Harbhajan.
Man of the Match: B. Lee.
