Guyana whip Antigua to stay unbeaten

CASTRIES - Champions Guyana dispatched Antigua and Barbuda yesterday to finish with a 100 per cent record in their four matches in Zone B.

Playing without skipper Carl Hooper, Guyana still managed to dispose of the Antiguans in the final Red Stripe Bowl preliminary at Beausejour Craicket Ground.

Guyana posted a respectable score with Lennox Cush, as opener, hitting the top score of 70.

The Guyanese, who will play Barbados in the second semifinal on Friday, then dismissed Antigua easily despite a responsible knock of 83 from No. 3 batsman Sylvester Joseph.

Mali Richards, the 18-year-old son of legendary former West Indies captain Sir Vivian Richards, made just one off 17 balls on his debut. He was watched by his illustrious father in the Players Pavilion.

St Vincent and The Grenadines (246-9 in 50 overs) beat Rest Of Leewards (182-7 in 50 overs) by 64 runs.

St Catherine, Jamaica - St Vincent and The Grenadines ended their Red Stripe Bowl cricket campaign on a winning note yesterday - their only win of the tourney.

For the Leewards, it was their third defeat in four matches. The Vincentians, Leewards and the University of the West Indies all ended on three points.

Jamaica topped the zone with 12 points from four matches while Barbados was second with nine points. Both qualified for the semifinals which begin Thursday at the Kaiser Sports Club.
