Injuries and selection opens way for four new players in PM's XI v ATSIC Chairman's XI match

Injuries and tour selection have opened the way for four players to be drafted into the Prime Minster's XI versus the ATSIC Chairman's XI limited-overs match in Adelaide this Friday (21 March).

Tasmanian Tigers duo Sean Clingeleffer and Michael Dighton, and Victorian Bushrangers all-rounder Andrew McDonald have been called into the Prime Minister's side.

The trio replaces Western Australian pair Shaun Marsh and Chris Rogers and New South Wales Blues wicket-keeper Brad Haddin.

Haddin has withdrawn with a hip strain while Marsh has failed to overcome a groin injury that forced him to miss the Western Warriors' last two Pura Cup matches of the season.

Warriors team mate Rogers is unavailable following his selection in the Australian Cricket Board's (ACB) assimilation tour of India, which departs on Thursday (20 March).

Clingeleffer, 22, makes his second appearance in the Prime Minister's XI v ATSIC Chairman's XI match, after competing in the inaugural game in 2001.

The Tigers' wicket-keeper has enjoyed a solid season for Tasmania, scoring 85 runs from 10 ING Cup matches, with 10 dismissals. In the Pura Cup this season, Clingeleffer claimed 34 dismissals and scored 249 runs from 10 matches.

Dighton, originally from Western Australia, completed his second season with the Tigers in 2002-03. The 26-year-old was the fourth highest run-scorer in this season's ING Cup competition, with 367 runs at an average of 36.70 from his 10 matches.

He also recorded the fourth fastest-fifty in the limited-overs game, scoring a half-century from 39 balls in the ING Cup match against Victoria in Melbourne in November.

McDonald, 22, joins Dighton in the Prime Minister's XI for the first time.

The Victorian all-rounder scored 81 runs at 57.04 from two Pura Cup matches this season. He made 128 runs in the limited-overs game at 25.60, also claiming four wickets in seven ING Cup matches.

Meanwhile, in the only change to the ATSIC Chairman's XI side, Queensland pace bowler Mitchell Johnson has withdrawn from Friday's match due to a back injury. Johnson has been replaced by Queensland fast bowler Glen Martin.

Martin, 21, is a former member of the Pace Australia Cricket Academy and currently plays cricket for Queensland grade side Norths. He represented the ATSIC Chairman's XI team last year, taking 1-21 from five overs.

Friday's match at the Adelaide Oval will be staged as a day-night fixture under ING Cup playing conditions with 50-overs per side.

Entry to the match is free, with a gold coin donation at the gate. Half the money raised from entry will be donated to assist victims of October's Bali tragedy, while the remainder will help fund Indigenous cricket programs in South Australia.
