Kenya v South Africa 1999-2000

At Gymkhana, Nairobi, September 30

15-Apr-2001
At Gymkhana, Nairobi, September 30. South Africa won by 24 runs. Toss: Kenya. International debut: P. Ochieng.
A spirited Kenyan all-round performance fleetingly threatened an upset, but in the end South Africa's bowlers - in particular Pollock, who took three for ten - snuffed out the challenge. Earlier, Cronje had unexpectedly decided to open the batting, a gamble that did not pay off. Rhodes, who could have been caught at backward point before scoring, hit 45 from 46 balls, and in general the South African batsmen played themselves in, only to get out when going well. Kenya were never up with the asking-rate but, until Tikolo and Odoyo were parted at 156, there was a glimmer of hope. In a beautiful innings, Tikolo cut and pulled the quicker bowlers and punished anything short from Adams.
Man of the Match: S. O. Tikolo.
