Pakistan v England 2000-2001

At Rawalpindi, October 30 (day/night)

15-Apr-2002
At Rawalpindi, October 30 (day/night). Pakistan won by six wickets. Toss: Pakistan.
The third game followed a similar plot to the second. This time, though, it was Saqlain Mushtaq who took five wickets, even more cheaply, in helpful conditions, while the England players swallowed tear-gas rather than flies. The noxious fumes twice drifted across the ground during England's innings as police outside attempted to disperse spectators without tickets. Some of the England batsmen, as well as the Pakistan fielders, suffered streaming eyes and choking throats. Several tossed away their wickets with loose shots or poor technique as England were dismissed inside 43 overs. Hussain was unlucky, given out lbw by umpire Mian Aslam even though the ball pitched well outside leg stump. He kept his emotions intact on the field, but smashed the glass door of the dressing-room fridge with his bat. Although the redoubtable Inzamam-ul-Haq guided Pakistan home with few problems, England produced a spirited fielding performance in which Hussain was magnificent. Pakistan's series victory was only their second in bilateral one-day tournaments with England, and their first since 1974.

Man of the Match: Saqlain Mushtaq.
