Pakistan v Sri Lanka 1999-2000

At Sharjah, October 18 (day/night)

15-Apr-2001
At Sharjah, October 18 (day/night). Pakistan won by 118 runs. Toss: Pakistan.
This was a notable victory for Pakistan's youth policy, with three teenagers playing prominent roles in their handsome win. Their innings was built around whirlwind fifties from two 19-year-old all-rounders: Shahid Afridi clobbered five sixes from his 50 balls, Abdur Razzaq four from 51. More sedate support came from most of the middle order. After Shabbir Ahmed, playing his second one-day international, had decapitated Sri Lanka's reply, removing both openers in his first three overs, they regrouped through de Silva and Atapattu. But the latter's departure was the signal for a rush of Sri Lankan wickets: seven went for 37, two to Afridi's leg-spin and two to 17-year-old Shoaib Malik, who also ran out Silva. Pakistan's success saw them safely to the final.
Man of the Match: Shahid Afridi.
