At Sharjah, February 14 (day/night). Pakistan won by four wickets. Toss: West Indies.
Determined bowling and brilliant fielding by West Indies stretched Pakistan's pursuit of an
eminently beatable 190 into the 47th over. Gayle had given West Indies a roaring start, dashing
to 50 in 53 balls, with ten fours sent to all points of the compass. But he was struck by a sudden
bout of the chronic illness which dogs him, and his dismissal sent the innings into decline. Hooper
tried to prop it up, but could not maintain the momentum. There were 16 fours in 19 overs while
Gayle was in, but only one, from Hooper, and a solitary six, from Brown, thereafter. West Indies'
fast bowlers soon reduced Pakistan to a perilous 15 for three. However, Yousuf Youhana kept a
calm head, anchoring them until the 31st over, while Rashid Latif and Abdul Razzaq launched
the attack that brought victory.
Man of the Match: Abdul Razzaq.
