Ryan Hinds, the Barbados captain struck a career best 168 as his team were dismissed for 360 on the opening day of their seventh-round Carib Beer match against Leeward Islands at St Thomas. In reply, Leewards were 88 for 3 after batting out the remaining 19 overs left in the day's play.
Hinds, whose innings included 25 fours and three sixes, shared crucial stands of 65 and 141 with Alcino Holder and Ian Bradshaw respectively. Barbados were in a spot of bother at 115 for 4, with Adam Sanford accounting for three of the four wickets to fall. Omari Banks chipped in with three wickets and claimed the wicket of Hinds, caught by Sylvester Joseph at cover. After Bradshaw was dismissed for 25, Barbodos lost their last four wickets for 25 runs. Sanford was the leading wicket taker, taking 4 for 77 off 16 overs.
Sewnarine Chattergoon scored 75 as Guyana finished with 213 for 4 on the opening day of their Carib Beer series match against Jamaica at Chedwin park on Friday. Chris Gayle and Gareth Breese, the spinners, picked up the first two wickets. Chattergoon and Ramnaresh Sarwan held a useful partnership of 46 runs for the third wicket before the latter was caught by Breese off Daren Powell, the only fast bowler to take a wicket. Chattergoon was on coarse to scoring his third first-class century before he was run-out for 75, with the score on 174. Shivnarine Chanderpaul, batting on 48 and Travis Dowlin were at the crease till stumps.
