South Africa v Sri Lanka

At Bloemfontein, December 6, 2002 (day/night)

15-Apr-2004
At Bloemfontein, December 6, 2002 (day/night). South Africa won by six wickets. Toss: Sri Lanka. One-day international debut: M. Zondeki.
South Africa confirmed their supremacy, even though with the series already won and the World Cup looming, they took the opportunity to experiment. In came Monde Zondeki, a lithe, fresh-cheeked Xhosa fast bowler, the nephew and foster son of the late sports minister Steve Tshwete. His first delivery in international cricket provided the enduring image of the game when his extra bounce ended a fine fifty from Atapattu. Thereafter, Sangakkara held the innings together with 77 from 115 balls. But a target of 229 proved little obstacle for South Africa: Gibbs blazed 47 from 45 balls at the start and McKenzie eased to 70 at the end.
Man of the Match: S. M. Pollock. Attendance: 5,235.
Man of the Series: J. H. Kallis.
