South Africa v Zimbabwe 1999-2000

Toss: South Africa.

15-Apr-2001
Toss: South Africa.
South Africa returned to form after their drubbing by India, and avenged their defeat by Zimbabwe in the World Cup four months earlier. At 170 for two in the 39th over, Zimbabwe were cruising towards a challenging total. Then they lost Grant Flower for a pugnacious 91 and began to haemorrhage wickets. When South Africa batted, Gibbs and Klusener shot out of the blocks, zooming to 101 by the end of the 15th over. Kallis replaced Gibbs, forced to retire with an injured foot, and continued the momentum; Cronje did likewise when a wicket at last fell, at 174. Klusener reached his second one-day international hundred, off 104 balls, just before victory arrived. Each opening partnership was a limited-overs record against the opposition.
Man of the Match: L. Klusener.
