At Sharjah, October 26 (day/night). Sri Lanka won by 63 runs. Sri Lanka 5 pts. Toss: Sri Lanka.
International debut: T. C. B. Fernando.
The regular clatter of wickets prevented Zimbabwe from getting anywhere near Sri Lanka's
256. Charitha Buddika Fernando enjoyed an eventful international debut: after two no-balls, his
first legal delivery nipped back to have Marillier lbw, and in the sixth over, he cut one away from
Carlisle's bat to have him caught behind. Jagging the ball from a length, he took five wickets in
all, though at more than seven an over. No Zimbabwean partnership lasted longer than eight overs
until Brent joined Ervine at 120 for seven in the 33rd; by then it was too late. Buddika Fernando
ended their stand, clean bowling Brent and Friend in successive balls. Earlier, to the accompaniment
of jubilant drumming from their supporters, Atapattu and Arnold shared a stand of 115, leaving
Zimbabwe to score at five an over on a slow outfield and under lights.
Man of the Match: T. C. B. Fernando.
