At St George's, May 5. South Africa won by 132 runs. Toss: West Indies.
This was South Africa's most comprehensive victory in 21 limited-overs internationals with West Indies, who were in such confusion over selection that Hooper was quarter of an hour late for the toss. He then offered his opponents first use of an ideal pitch and fast outfield, on which they amassed 287 for four, their second-best one-day total against West Indies. Kirsten, who passed Cronje's South African record of 5,565 limited-overs runs, and Gibbs built a platform of 88 in 15 overs; Kallis built on it in stands of 90 with Rhodes and 67 with Klusener. His second six took him to his seventh one-day international hundred in the penultimate over, and he finished with 107 off 108 balls. West Indies lost Gayle to the fourth ball of the innings, and in 39 overs never mastered South Africa's tight bowling and sharp fielding.
Man of the Match: J. H. Kallis.
