2012
The 149th edition of Wisden Cricketers' Almanack, the first under the editorship of Lawrence Booth, covered England's climb to the top of the Test rankings which included the 4-0 whitewash against India. On a better note for India, it also told the story of a memorable evening in Mumbai where, with a clean swing of MS Dhoni's bat, they became World Cup champions for the first time in 28 years which sent a country into scenes of euphoria. However, Booth also struck a cautious tone warning that the game needed India to look outward for the betterment of the sport. The darker side of the game is chronicled with in-depth reports about the spot-fixing trial of three Pakistan Test cricketers who were jailed told through the eyes of Richard Edwards who covered the entire story. Elsewhere, Mike Brearley leads a series of articles about depression in cricket which includes a moving account from Sussex captain Michael Yardy. There is also the full story of Lancashire's first outright County Championship title in 77 years along with the Five Cricketers of The Year (after 2011's four) where Kumar Sangakkara became the first player to be one of the five and also named the Leading Cricketer in the World.
